Day 3 & 4

Got the garbage disposal fixed in the morning and then ran around getting items off the carpet in preparation for the carpet cleaning.  It's amazing how many things I had to pick up.  As a result my upper back went out which was a bummer.  Got the tile and carpet cleaned, he left at 12:20 and the realtor picked me up at 12:30 for 3 hours of looking at housing possibilities.  Sadly, the only one that met inside and outside desires had a cracked slab.  Still it was good to get out and see what is out there.  We got back at 3:30 and called the chiropractor quickly and made an appointment for 5:!5 after my 4:00 massage.  I had to fit in a couple of fun things for myself while the kiddos were gone!

Massage was wonderful, chiropractor helped with the back pain and then I was onto Islands to meet Melissa for dinner at 5:30.  We had a good time laughing.  As usual it went too fast and before I knew it, it was time to head home to take all the items off the beds and counters since the carpet was dry.  As soon as V. got home, it was time to move all the heavy furniture out of the living area.  We got all done at 9pm and then camped out on the floor talking and watching tv for an hour.

Today was laminate install day and get the upstairs completely cleaned, touch up painting and decluttered.  I worked from 10-2:30 before I took my first break and now I've gotten another few things done but I've lost momentum and am pooped out.  V. is on his way home from LA so hopefully we can move the couch back and then head out to grab some dinner and relax while watching game 7 of the NBA Finals.  The installers will have to come back tomorrow morning for a quick finish of something that had to be ordered today but it should be quick.  Kiddos are to be picked up early afternoon tomorrow.  It's amazing how quickly this week has gone.

Catching Up & Project Management

Yes I know it's been almost 2 weeks since my last post.  It's been busy, project kind of busy.  I had to get the annual photo albums done for the grandparents in time for the 50% off sale.  I couldn't miss that sale and sleep well, well as well as I even typically sleep at night.  I planned on getting these photo books done ahead of time and but being sick for 2 weeks took care of that.  This led to finishing the book up at 11:45 pm, a whole 15 minutes ahead of the midnight sale deadline.

As soon as I was done with the photo book, it was onto project number 2 - online Christmas shopping.  That took about 4-5 nights.  Purchasing a gift is easy online, it's the finding the right gifts for people that takes so long.

Next nighttime project was going through I.'s clothes for a big donation by the end of the year.  Since I've saved all her clothes for the past 7 years and my parents were well financed at that time and big shoppers ta boo, there were a lot of clothes to go through and decide what to keep and what to give away.  At times it was painfully sentimental and I would find myself crying as I remembered I. wearing certain items and what she and I had been doing at the time.  Sometimes I feel like we are far from that place and it makes me sad.  But I'm working on that and I'm helping I. work on it too and the last couple of days, it has been better so there is hope.

My current nighttime project is Christmas present wrapping which surprisingly takes awhile and usually involves back pain and my last project that I hope to take care of before New Year's is baby equipment donation to help clear out the garage even further.

This is the most boring post I've ever read but I have to admit, it helped to mentally clear things out of my head and helps me to acknowledge that I've gotten quite a bit done the last couple of months, all of it after my 2 full-time jobs aka the kids have gone to bed and V.'s been on travel.  I think I'll give myself a pat on the back.

Not Perfect But Okay

Just a quick post before we're off to do an observation at a very expensive school that I suspect would be the perfect one for I. Why does it always happen that way? But I digress... Dr. Laura had a video post from a mom who was lamenting how hard it was to be a stay at home mom when her husband had to work out of town 3 days a week. I thought to myself, "Three days a week? Wow, that would be a cake walk." Because it would be a vast improvement over what our last 6 years of family/work life have been. But the point actually wasn't a "my situation is worse than your situation" though it was tempting not to go there, just out of pure jealousy. The point was one that Dr. Laura made. That it's not just good enough to survive through it, though God knows there are moments where you do just that, but it's okay to say, "It's not perfect but it's how it is right now." Accept it and move on making the best of what the situation is. Things could be so much worse and I know that. I experience the "worser" situations in my realistic dreams and wake up thankful that it was only a dream. I see the "worser" situation in my parents' life with my dad unemployed and way too many high expenses. There are many other "worser" situations out there. My family/work situation may not be perfect but it's okay and hopefully one day it will get better. Hopefully before V. retires.

Firsts

THEY ARE FINISHED!!!
This morning was the first morning in awhile that I didn't have to anticipate workers arriving at my house whenever they felt like, letting themselves in the house with the key in the lockbox. The first thing I did last night after they left was to go take the front door key out of the lockbox so now if someone wants to come into my house, they'll have to break in because I'll be hibernating for quite awhile. Another first last night - after I made my once a night traverse to the toilet (I'm relishing it because in a couple of months, it'll be three times a night), I didn't lie awake for an hour with racing worries and thoughts, a symptom of the chaos that has been surrounding me for the past month and a half. Now don't get me wrong - the work is not done. THEIR work is done and now mine starts. The fun part of putting everything back in the drawers, rooms, and closets begins as well as deciding what gets hung back up on the wall and where. But that's all doable and can be done in chunks of time. Not only that, it's something that I can spend an hour on and see a noticeable difference which makes a big difference in my daily life. It's all about the little things.

Thanks To the Cat

Thanks to the Cat, the title of the post did not end up being "Sigh". I was just getting ready to title that in response to V.'s phone call and warning this morning that he may not make it back for this weekend either which bums me out because we need to get the tree this Sunday. If we don't, we'll spend a whole bunch of time decorating the tree only to get to enjoy it for 10 days. That's not okay with me. This year was supposed to be different. I was looking forward to having V. around for the holidays. Now it looks like I'll just be lucky to have him home for the actual holiday itself.

But back to the Cat, I was sitting here bummed, getting ready to post when I look over and see him dragging my stuffed dog down the stairs ( two flights of them) between his legs with its ear firmly in his jaws. This is his way of molesting it. Kind of gross but it looks so comical that you can't help but laugh. When he does this, I know that he wants some snuggling and affection, which is not his normal M.O., so I picked him up and gave him some love. It changed my internal vibe to feel him purring with his eyes closed, just enjoying my affection.

I worked hard last night to get the Christmas cards ready for mailing and get V.'s family present box ready for the post office. I'm hoping that this evening I can relax a little. Last night when I got I. down for bed, I was really tired from a go-go-go day and I went and hung out with our foster cat and dozed off on the bed with her. She actually laid on her side next to me and dozed off. It was nice. Dozing off at 4:30 is unlike me so I must have needed it.

Yesterday I got V. his big gift, one that I've been saying there is no way he's getting and one that he will be SO excited about. It's the IPad and it wasn't cheap to say the least. But it is the one thing he really wants and that it kind of rare. I came to the conclusion that it wasn't up to me to make a value judgement of what he should get for a present. He's not a child, he works his butt off, and he makes the money and never questions how I spend it. Once I bought it, I got so excited because I know how surprised he is going to be and what a good Christmas it will be for him. Isn't that what gift giving is all about?

One thing is for sure. I won't have him open it with the girls there because I know they will be envious and want two of them for themselves. They don't understand that they are 18, jobless, and barely going to school and some things you need to wait to get and earn. That's not a lesson they've been taught unfortunately and I will be aware of that as soon as I hear what their Christmas demands are.

That'll be another post though. Off to get ready for the day...

Making It Feel Like Saturday

The name of the game today is to make it feel like a Saturday instead of just another weekday which happens when V. is out of town on the weekend. Unconsciously (literally) I kicked things off by sleeping until 8:10 and actually got away with it. Thank goodness for those 15 books in I.'s bed and her imagination with the 30 stuffed animals because it got me some extra sleep. Makes that pain in the butt daily arranging of her bed worth it for once.

I tried at breakfast to make it feel like a weekend by asking I. if she wanted pancakes for breakfast to which she responded, "No, I want oat bran." I'd like to know how many 4 year olds have uttered that sentence. It's so true what they say about children mirroring what their parents eat, act, and say. So I guess I'm doing good in the eating area because now she prefers oatmeal (unsweetened), oat bran, and "white eggs". "White eggs" is what she calls egg whites which is what I supplement my breakfast and lunch. I usually try to sneak one yolk in her's just for some staying power. When you have a kid who is hungry literally every hour (and that's after 3 huge meals), every bite is all about staying power or I'd be in the kitchen fixing food round the clock. And she's still this lean, mean feisty machine despite the amount of food she consumes. Oh to have her metabolism!

This afternoon we'll be off to our early dinner to be taken care of by "Baby", our favorite waiter. We don't even order, he knows what we want and sometimes has the table set up with drinks and chips before we even hit the door. When V. is not here, that extra care is soothing to me and makes me feel a little less lonely.

Now it's off to the gym to try to burn some of those anticipated dinner calories. Hopefully I'll have more energy after I. goes to bed than I had last night because I have a lot of client work I need to work on. I'm sure that margarita at dinner tonight will help with energy and inspiration - NOT!

It Appears I'm Supporting King Abdullah Abdullah

That's gotta be an unusual posting title, I would imagine. But regardless, as I was processing bills for the next week, it appears that in fact, I AM SUPPORTING THE GOVERNMENT OF SAUDI ARABIA.

Why do I say this? Because I just looked at my credit card statement for the last 2 weeks and somehow I've racked up over $8500 in just a few days. Me, the person who doesn't spend money. How does this happen? Well, I'll tell you. It starts with a husband sent to DC, Holland, Germany, and then Saudi Arabia with a business credit card that somehow ceases to work so he starts charging on our PERSONAL credit card. Oh, it's reimbursable you say. Yeah, EVENTUALLY. Just got paid today and there wasn't one cent of reimbursement and this credit card is now due September 2nd. Jeez, think that may add some stress and aggravation to me?!

On top of it, I look at the details of the expenses and when V. calls me tonight, I ask him, "What the hell were those towelheads (pardon the slur, it is my fuckin personal credit card) riding in while they were in DC? Fucking Secret Service black Escalades?" because 2 days cost over $2500 in transportation costs. And you know what V. said? "Yes, that's exactly what they were riding in with dark, tinted windows."

Fucking Saudi Arabia, with our jacked up oil prices and I'm paying for them to ride around like they're fucking President Obama. On top of this, the company is mandating a 4 day furlough so we'll get a paycheck soon with 6 days of pay for 10 days of work PLUS this God forsaken project will not be done in November (or July as previously promised) but sometime next year so we'll just lose another year for our family. No big deal, right? To quote Tony Montana in Scarface, "You're all a bunch of fucking assholes."
